Catastrophic Failure

After the judges and priests fail to lead the children of Israel to follow God’s Word, the office of king is introduced. At the time of King Solomon’s birth, Israel has been equipped to fulfill the national promise that God made to Abram. Israel has been multiplied into a nation, they have been delivered from the rule of foreign nations, they have been furnished with the special dwelling of God, they have been given God’s law, they have been given a land from which they are to rule, and they have been given a king to rule over them while representing God’s character according to God’s Word. Despite all of this, the kings fail to represent God’s character and act as His representative rulers before the children of Israel. The nations entice the kings with their women and the kings begin to follow after the gods of the nations.
